Parry Sound District Health Unit Breastfeeding Education Update - May 7, 2010 Dr. James Murphy, MD Breastfeeding and Tongue Tie Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, a Board Member of the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition, a Medical Associate of La Leche League and a member of ILCA. Dr Murphy began performing lingual frenulotomies in November 2003 and has performed over 700 of these procedures to date including posterior sub-mucosal fibrous bands. Invited Canadian and international speakers will bring current findings and expert perspectives on various birth settings, the safety of home birth and the impact of birthplace on maternity care politics, practices and outcomes.

BIRTHING THE WORLD – Conference on Best Practices in Perinatal Care
is a unique invitation to explore and reflect upon, from an
interdisciplinary perspective, the multiple dimensions of the early
period of life. This event is intended as a major step forward in how we
conceive and perceive perinatal care. It is a unique opportunity for
perinatal care practitioners of all stripes to come together around
common issues relating to childbirth, breastfeeding and becoming
parents, to share their knowledge with one another and to concert their
efforts for the benefit of pregnant women and their families.
